10 Things We Learned About Batman In Zero Year
What Snyder and Capullo's opus revealed to us about the Dark Knight...
Acclaimed writer Scott Snyder and veteran artist Greg Capullo have been teamed on Batman since the launch of The New 52, DC Comics' revamp of their comic book universe. They've produced thirty issues of classic Dark Knight stories over the last two and a half years, with the perceived wisdom being that their run will go down as one of the best in the character's history. Their contributions will remain part of the Bat-mythos for years after they are finished on the book, having introduced new characters and concepts so interesting, so magnificently realised and yet so tantalisingly mysterious that subsequent writers and artists will no doubt explore them further. Ask most Batman readers today for the definitive Dark Knight origin story and, more often than not, the answer will be Year One, Frank Miller and David Mazzuchelli's sublimely gritty urban masterpiece. So, in order to escape the large shadow cast by Miller's tale, what new shades did Snyder and Capullo give us in Zero Year? What revelations did we learn about The Caped Crusader and Gotham City? Well, dear readers, we're about to find out! Or, more accurately, we're about to tell you. Buckle up. The following article contains massive spoilers for Zero Year, obviously, so if you haven't read it all yet, it might be a good time to bail. Don't say we didn't warn you...
