8. Batman Had An Evil Uncle...Sort Of

Oh, Uncle Philip. You misguided fool, you. Martha Wayne's brother is a character that hadn't been seen in the pages of Batman comics since the fifties. Given that Scott Snyder is such a dedicated Bat-historian, it shouldn't come as a surprise that he dusted off an old relic and gave him a polish. In Zero Year, Philip is the man who ran Wayne Enterprises during the period that Bruce Wayne was away from Gotham, steering the company in the direction of "protective technology" - in other words, weapons. It's these very weapons that make Philip a target of The Red Hood, who force him to join and pilfer particularly deadly items from his arsenal. Philip had hoped that giving them small pieces of weaponry would keep them from coming after larger pieces. Sadly, it doesn't really work out that way, with Bruce's Uncle meeting a sticky end whilst dressed as a member of the Red Hood himself. But this is not before his advisor sics the Red Hood Gang on Bruce himself which Philip, to his credit, was not cool with. He was just a slightly misguided guy caught between a rock and a hard place. That said he did have a pretty shameful screening process for potential employees. That advisor we kept mentioning? A certain Mr Edward Nygma...
