10 Things That Will Never Happen In The DC Cinematic Universe

3. Batman Has An Accident

It's never really made clear whether DC considers the Batman stories written by Kevin Smith to be a part of the official Batman canon or just standalone limited series, so 2009-10 collection The Widening Gyre may be out-of-continuity. One can only hope. To state things blandly, The Widening Gyre just isn't very good. The most memorable part is memorable for all of the wrong reasons: Batman recalls an escapade early in his career - one seen in a pivotal moment in Frank Miller's iconic Year One story arc - where he sheepishly admits to having a bladder spasm. This is the Dark Knight, mind you, the one who ostensibly wears that mask in order to strike fear into various hearts across Gotham. I'm all for humor in Batman comics. This is Kevin Smith we're talking about here, so expecting the guy to loaf around in his jorts and go and write a serious Bat-book is probably expecting too much. And this instance isn't why I refer to The Widening Gyre as a failure (Batman revealing his identity to a villain who then kills his girlfriend while he's in the room€ yeah, that's pretty much why). Still, though, Widening Gyre #6 has to be one of the most glaring examples of the mischaracterization of Batman in the history of comics, and having the Caped Crusader cop to a bladder spasm is just absurd.
