10 Things That Will Never Happen In The DC Cinematic Universe
4. Batman Shoots A Vampire
Okay, so it doesn't take a fortuneteller to predict that Ben Affleck wasn't enlisted to breathe life into the famous Bob Kane gun-wielding Batman of the early Golden Age, nor will the October 1939 issue of Detective Comics (#32) that features Batman oh-so-nobly firing a silver bullet into the heart of a sleeping vampire find much of a home in the DC Cinematic Universe. There have been a few instances in the comics where Batman has broken his "no guns" rule, mostly employed to dramatic effect by modern writers. But the Batman who guns down slumbering bloodsuckers doesn't even need to break that rule - he doesn't even have it yet. Man of Steel made critical waves by having Superman kill Zod at the end of the film. Like Batman, Superman's "no killing" rule was only fastened down years after the character's debut, and there have been plenty of instances in the comics where Kal-El kills (and regrets it). There's a certain strength to the argument that a superhero - even Superman - wouldn't "get it right" the first time out, and hopefully we'll see some of the moral repercussions of that climactic Man of Steel event in future films. Affleck's Batman, though, isn't a greenhorn like Henry Cavill's Superman. If he resorts to killing or gun violence, you can bet it will be used purely for dramatic effect as it was in Man of Steel.
