10 Things You Didn't Know About Batgirl

2. Barbara Gordon Didn't Have A Solo Series First

Whilst Barbara Gordon's return to the cowl was met with a mixed response €“ some were sad that her time as Oracle had all but been forgotten, whilst publisher and supervillain Dan DiDio stated that €œshe'll always be the most recognisable Batgirl€ as a reason for bringing her back €“ and her current solo title is a smashing success, she didn't actually have the first Batgirl solo series. She's not even had the longest, despite Gail Simone's marathon run on the Batgirl book that ended with the implementation of the new creative team. No, that honour must go to the Cassandra Cain version of the character, who was the first Batgirl to have her own series. The first monthly Batgirl title didn't begin until 2000, if you can believe it. Which is kind of ridiculous, considering the character made her first appearance in 1961, and Barbara Gordon was introduced in 1967. That's a good forty years where she was just a supporting character. Even then it was a while before Babs ran the show, with Stephanie Brown getting a shot after Cain went off the rails.
