10 Things You Didn't Know About Batman

8. Kane Unable

Most diehard Batman fans will tell you the Joker isn€™t actually the most prominent villain in the Dark Knight€™s storied history; that honour belongs to none other than €˜sole creator€™ Bob Kane. Kane certainly planted the first seed, but apparently the man responsible for much of its germination was Bill Finger. After being shown Kane€™s first sketches, Finger€™s influence was immediately apparent in his suggestions that the colour scheme be altered, that Batman should wear a cowl instead of a mask and that his cape should be scalloped so that it resembled wings. And that€™s just the beginning. Finger penned most of the early stories, came up with the name Bruce Wayne as well as the back-story of his parents€™ murders, coined the name €˜Gotham€™ for Batman€™s hometown, conceived that the character should be a detective with no superpowers, and had a hand in the creation of such indispensible characters as Robin, Commissioner Gordon, Catwoman and the Joker. All of which makes Bob Kane€™s long-time accreditation as Batman€™s sole creator ring false. It should also be noted that several other writers and artists were also hugely influential €“ Jerry Robinson, Gardner Fox and Sheldon Moldoff, in particular €“ but Finger never lived to see his contributions properly acknowledged. Years after his death, Kane commented: €œHe was an unsung hero€ I often tell my wife, if I could go back fifteen years, before he died, I would like to say €˜I€™ll put your name on it now. You deserve it.€™€

I watch movies and I watch sport. I also watch movies about sport, and if there were a sport about movies I'd watch that too. The internet was the closest thing I could find.
