10 Things You Didn't Know About DC's New Gods

3. The New Gods Are Not Living Beings In The Traditional Sense

As if the New Gods were not already insanely powerful, the Final Crisis crossover reveals that the New Gods are not physical beings in the traditional sense, and are instead living embodiments of various Platonic Ideals. This became especially apparent during this event series, where the machinations of Darkseid and his underlings threatened to tear reality apart.

For example, Darkseid is the personification of tyranny and evil, Orion war, Lightray joy and charisma, Mister Miracle freedom, and Granny Goodness embodies the oppression and control of youth.

This in some ways is similar to how several pantheons on Earth feature deities that transcend physical form, and this is fitting since all these incredibly powerful beings all owe their existence to the same cosmic phenomenon.

In addition to this, it also explains how the Fourth World was left largely unscathed following the reality-altering Crisis on Infinite Earths, and how New Gods are the same when they appear in different universes.
