10 Things You Didn't Know About Ironheart

3. Queen Of Latveria

After flying to the Smithsonian to investigate an explosion, Riri defied Nick Fury and SHIELD to fly inside and find Sharon Carter sitting among the rubble. Having been saved by a personal force field, the SHIELD commander informed the young hero that the spy agency had her under surveillance since she was nine. This angered Riri and she almost left but Carter convinced her to stay, playing into the hero’s desire to help.

Carter asked Ironheart to travel to Latveria to depose Lucia Von Bardas, the former Prime minister who had been installed with America’s help but was now guilty of war crimes. Clandestine attempts to remove her by Fury’s Secret Defenders had turned her into a powerful cyborg. Fighting von Bardas and an army of Doombots, Williams gains the upper hand and defeats her. When Lucia says she has no authority, Ironheart says this is an act of dethroning and declares herself Queen of Latveria.

Rather than just leave a country in need when Sharon Carter and SHIELD showed up with the Hellicarrier, Ironheart held the position of Queen of Latveria until she could establish communication between SHIELD and the Latverian armed forces. She peacefully stopped insurgent attacks and made sure that free elections were planned and the schools were reopened for the children. Then, Riri abdicated and returned to Chicago.
