10 Things You Didn't Know About Mr. Freeze

2. Patrick Stewart Almost Played Him

Arnold Schwarzenegger's performance as Mr Freeze in Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin isn't the worst performance in a movie ever. Technically, the Golden Raspberry award that year went to Dennis Rodman in Double Team. Plus, who could begrudge giving Arnie the chance to revel in all those deliciously awful puns? €œWhat killed the dinosaurs? The Ice Age!€, €œAllow me to break the ice!€, €œLet's kick some ice!€. Amazing. Any criticism should really be laid at the door of the screenwriters and the costume designer who lumbered him with a cheap Power Rangers knock-off of an outfit. Still, different casting may have had an effect on Batman & Robin. Schwarzenegger's Mr Freeze has the familiar tragic back story, but the film doesn't dwell on it all that much. Perhaps that might have been different if the original rumoured plan of casting Patrick Stewart in the role had come to pass, with the former Picard and Shakespearean thespian more suited to such a dramatic role.
