10 Things You Didn't Know About Red Skull

2. He Once Teamed Up With The Joker

Red Skull Powers
DC/Marvel Comics

Believe it or not, despite having to traverse both alternate dimensions and eras in order to do so, the Red Skull and The Joker have worked together before. It all went down in a 1997 crossover special called Batman/Captain America, where the Nazi supervillain hires the Clown Prince Of Crime to steal him an atom bomb during the Second World War.

Obviously. Who else would you trust for such a sensitive bit of espionage on American soil? Their plans are almost foiled by the combined might of Batman, Robin, Captain America and Bucky, but in the end The Joker winds up being the real hero. Despite often committing mass genocide himself, he's disgusted to find the Skull is a Nazi.

Seems a little hypocritical for The Joker to criticise the Skull's political leanings.

Still, he announces “I may be a criminal lunatic, but I'm an American criminal lunatic!” fights off the Red Skull as he plans to detonate his bomb over Washington DC, eventually shoving him out a plane over the ocean where they both explode and die.
