10 Things You Didn't Know About The Batcave

7. What's With The T-Rex?

Batman Batcave Kryptonite
DC Comics

The Batcave's Trophy Room contains many mementos from Batman's adventures. It includes Deathstroke’s sword, Two-Face’s coin, a Giant Joker Card, and the shroud of one of Batman's earliest villains, the Mad Monk.

However, the most identifiable trophy is the Tyrannosaurus Rex model. Readers assume that it's simply a statue. However, it's an animatronic and can be activated to scare and chase intruders.

Batman took the animatronic from a theme park called Dinosaur Island. Batman and Robin were asked to the island by an industrialist to see if the pair could survive being attacked by robot dinosaurs without any modern equipment or gadgets. Although the ordeal was meant to be a test to promote Dinosaur Island, a criminal called Stephen Chase took over the park and tried to use the robots to kill the heroes. Luckily, Batman and Robin tracked down Chase, arrested him, and took the T-Rex as a souvenir. (It must have been a nightmare to transport that to Wayne Manor. How did it get through customs?)

Although it looks out-of-place in the Batcave, it's appeared in the comics for a decades as a homage to Batman's sillier stories in his early years. And because dinosaurs are awesome.
