10 Things You Need To Know About Black Mask
9. He's Obsessed With Masks
Continuing Roman Sionis' trend of having the worst luck ever, he was bitten by a raccoon when he was a young boy. This did not give him the proportional strength and speed of a raccoon, but it did kick start a lifelong obsession with masks. Roman felt a certain kinship with the raccoon because it was "trapped in a lifelong mask" just like he was playing along with his parents attempts to fit in with a high-class society they despised (just nod your head and say "yes Roman, that makes perfect sense").
This love of masks and hidden identities would grow into an obsession as an adult. While the head of Janus Cosmetics, Roman began collecting masks from around the world. Eventually he became so obsessed that he ordered his employees to start producing incredibly bright makeup that would act as a liquid mask. This is what caused the company to fail since it is a product that no-one in the history of mankind has ever asked for.
Roman's love of hiding behind masks would meet an ironic twist once he became Black Mask. While fighting Batman in a burning building, Sionis was pinned down by a roof collapse. He survived, but the heat melted his mask, causing it to be fused to his face.
