10 Things You Need To Know About Deadshot

4. He Might Cancel A Contract (If You Ask Nicely)

There are a few rules that you must adhere to when you decide to finally tackle your childhood dream and begin your own murder-for-hire business. You need to be cool, calm and collected, have your own tuxedo, a barcode tattoo on the back of your neck and a complete and utter lack of remorse. Most importantly, if you take on a contract, you need to see it through. I could tell you why I know these things, but I€™d have to kill you afterwards. Deadshot is anything if not a professional, however he has shown that he will allow a contract to be cancelled if there is enough reason behind it. Lawton is more than just an icy, unfeeling psychopath. I mean, he is an icy, unfeeling psychopath but being a killer is not the entire summation of the character. John Ostrander, the creator of the modern Suicide Squad concept and the writer behind the first beloved run of the comic, ended the series with a beautiful moment of characterization that truly highlighted his tight grasp of the characters and their inner workings, especially Deadshot. Count Vertigo, whose power to make you feel like you had just necked a bottle of tequila and then played a game of musical chairs on a merry-go-round is actually more useful than you would initially believe, is going through a rough patch and wants to die. Which shouldn€™t be a problem, considering he belongs to a team called the Suicide Squad. Vertigo asks Deadshot to do the deed and Deadshot says he will, however he will not hesitate in the slightest so Vertigo must think about it first. In the last scene of Ostrander€™s run, Vertigo and Deadshot stand opposite one another. Deadshot points his wrist gun at Vertigo. Vertigo asks Deadshot if he believes in a hereafter, in God, in heaven or hell. Deadshot, an atheist, does not. The Count, a deeply religious man, knows that being a Catholic and committing suicide means taking a one way trip to the fiery pits of Surtur. Which means that, although Deadshot will be the one taking his life, asking him to do so means suicide by proxy. Vertigo tells Deadshot that he doesn€™t want to die yet and they both leave. A perfect, quiet way to end a series about costumed criminals forced to work for the government.
