10 Things You Need To Know About Marvel's Secret Wars Retcon

2. It's To Bring It Closer To The MCU...

Of course, the other big reason that Marvel are doing this shuffling of their histories and alternate universes is that most feared of corporate buzzwords: synergy. The Ultimate line was an early attempt at it, but now that they're actually producing all of their movies in-house, bringing the comics as close to the Cinematic Universe is paramount above everything else. Like, obviously. If people see the Avengers, they want to be able to pick up a comic with the same team line-up, with stories they can understand from the get go. They want a familiar Thor, the same Iron Man, a brooding Daredevil like in the upcoming Netflix series rather than Mark Waid's happy-go-lucky take. They've been making small steps towards that, making Loki a younger and more central character as he is in the films, introducing Nick Fury's son €“ Nick Fury Jr €“ who also has an eye patch, but is black. Now, expect the Marvel Cinematic and Marvel Comic Book Universes to be in perfect alignment.
