10 Things You Need To Know About Marvel's Secret Wars Retcon

8. Secret Wars Is A Bigger Deal Than Before

The fact that all of this is spinning out of another Secret Wars series is kind of surprising. The original Secret Wars miniseries from back in the eighties was kind of fun, but it was mostly just an action-figure tie-in. And the sequel was...well, a thing that happened. Besides being the place that Spider-Man picked up the black alien suit he rocked until it started making him hear voices and get tonsillitis, there weren't really any lasting implications from that first Secret War. It was just a bit of fun. This Secret Wars, however, genuinely will change everything. The set up is a little confusing but, basically, there's a continent called Battleworld (it looks a lot like the United States...), with each quadrant home to a different Marvel Universe, alternate timeline, or storyline. So there's the many dark X-Men futures rubbing up against, say, Civil War-era Marvel. And they're gonna fight!
