10 Things You Need To Know About Marvel's Secret Wars Retcon
9. DC Do It All The Time
Really, the only reason people are kicking off about the prospect of a unified, rebooted Marvel Universe is because DC made such a hash of their last big retconning event. Spinning out of Flashpoint the publisher threw away basically their entire history and started from scratch with the New 52, an initiative that was supposed to bring in new readers. Except they didn't really decided how much of that history they were throwing away, and what would change, and what would get carried over, and the whole thing was kind of a mess. The worry is that Marvel could be making a similar mistake to DC, and considering how well they've been doing recently, that would be a mistake. Of course, another view is that Marvel just want to beat DC at their own game. Their rivals have another continuity-scraping event going on this year too, Convergence, and if Secret Wars ships on time? The rebooted Marvel Universe will debut in August, right around the time of the New 52's fourth anniversary. Anything they can do, Marvel can do better...
