10 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Batman’s Utility Belt

2. Tools Of The Trade

Batman Utility Belt
DC Comics

In many ways, Batman’s utility belt is very much like the toolbox of a mechanic or the supply cart of an artist. With it, he carries the tools that make it possible for him to protect the citizens of Gotham, deduce the clues left by his adversaries, and defeat foes that, on occasion, may be physically superior to him. Like any great craftsman, it is his skill and experience in using the tools of his trade that make Bruce Wayne the Dark Knight of Gotham.

There are some items that are constants in Batman’s utility belt. In addition to a variety of Batarangs that serve different functions, there will also always be a Batrope, attached in recent times to a gas-propelled grappling gun. There will also be a variety of small pellets and “bombs”. These include smoke bombs that the Gotham Guardian uses to hide his departures and disorient opponents, tear or sleep gas pellets to disable opponents, and flash grenades to blind and disorient them.

Some more specific but commonly carried tools include a rebreather that allows Batman to breathe underwater for a brief time, Bat tracers to put on thugs to track them, a forensic kit to gather clues, lock picks, restraints and Bat-cuffs, a medical kit, a computer uplink to the larger computer in the Batcave, and a camera and recording devices.
