10 Thor Graphic Novels You Must Read Before You Die
6. The Mighty Thor: The Death Of Thor
Like many other items on this list, The Mighty Thor saw the mantle of Thor be taken up by someone other than the Odinson - after Thor became unworthy during the events of Original Sin, Jane Foster picked up Mjolnir and transformed into The Mighty Thor.
Over the course of the next four years, Jane fought against the growing threat of Malekith and the dark elves, but quickly discovered that the use of Mjolnir had been accelerating the cancer she had developed as Jane Foster. Despite this, she continued to fight against Malekith as Thor, but, of course, this culminated in her eventually being presented with a dilemma: if she were to become Thor one last time, when she returned to the body of Jane Foster, she would die.
However, being the hero that she was, Jane picked up the hammer to save Asgard from the return of the Mangog, who, despite Odinson's best efforts, had almost destroyed the realm. In order to defeat Mangog, Jane sacrificed Mjolnir – and thus her life – by binding Mangog and Mjolnir together with Gleipnir, the chain used to trap Fenris the wolf, and hurling both into the Sun.
