10 Thor Graphic Novels You Must Read Before You Die
2. Thor: Disassembled
After the worst day in the Avengers' history, Asgard is faced with the prospect of Ragnarok; after millennia of reincarnation, the mysterious force of Ragnarok arrived and began to massacre Asgardian Gods as retribution for cheating death, and avoiding the coming of the end times on countless occasions across history.
During Thor's investigation of the events, he discovers that the only option he has to save his friends and family is to allow them and himself to die, and in one last selfless act of sacrifice, he joins Loki, who had triggered the event, to see Ragnarok to the end.
The story serves as an excellent way to explain why Asgard is constantly at the centre of world ending events in Marvel comics, but the ending also had massive repercussions for the entire Marvel Universe, as unlike in other 'end of Asgard' stories, Asgard was truly gone, and stayed that way until the end of J. Michael Straczynski's run.
