7. Slaughtered Along With The Rest Of The Avengers
The Korvac Saga (1977-1978) is one of the early classics of Cosmic Marvel, although it isnt actually very good. Mainly popping up in the main Avengers title (although it involved the Guardians of the Galaxy, and word on the grapevine is that the villain might figure into their next film), Korvac is an alien villain sailing through the universe, killing people and stealing their knowledge. When he arrived at Earth he discovered a veritable smorgasbord of smart, powerful folk he could best in combat before stealing all of their skills and know-how. And rather than go around picking heroes off one by one, Korvac opted to just tear the roof off of the Avengers Mansion and go at them like an all-you-can-kill buffet. After killing all of the Avengers, including Captain America, Korvac realises that he may have done a bad thing, before resurrecting everybody hed murdered to prove he was nice really. Then the slap-headed telepath Moondragon erases everyones memories of the story ever happening, an early example of a retcon happening on panel.
