10 Times Comics Changed Because Of The Fans

1. The Phoned-In Death Of Jason Todd

One of the most infamous comic book events that was totally motivated by fans came about because of the outcry of readers in the first place. After a good few decades of Dick Grayson as Batman's trusty sidekick Robin, DC finally allowed him to act his age, stop being his right-hand man and go off to make a name for himself as vigilante Nightwing. Which mean the Dynamic Duo was back down to a solo. When the Dark Knight came to chose a new ward, he went in the totally opposite direction to Dick. Jason Todd was still an orphan, of course, but a more wayward one. He was a bit of a brat, basically, prone to misbehaving, not following orders, and straight-up throwing a criminal off a balcony to his death. Not really the way Batman does things. Fans absolutely hated Jason Todd. Apparently trying something new didn't pay off for DC at all, to the point that they eventually buckled under pressure from their readers and decided to kill of the character. Not the last time a Robin would be killed, but the first, and most shocking. Screen Shot 2014 12 31 At 11 21 28 They put it to a fan vote €“ which is a bit morbid €“ with two phone numbers given in the back of an issue of Batman. One if you wanted Jason dead, one to survive. 5,343 to 5,271. The fans had spoken.
