10 Times Iron Man Was A Real Jerk

1. When He Turned On His Friends

Superior Iron Man
Marvel Comics

Tony Stark has done some terrible things over the years, and while he tends to act based on what he thinks is right, that doesn't mean he isn't in the wrong. Civil War was a perfect example of Tony doing what he thought was best while being a jerk to everyone at the same time.

Naturally, a civil war is going to be divisive, but Tony took the lead in the pro-government, pro-registration, pro-big brother side of the house, which put him at immediate odds with Captain America, and a large population of superheroes around the country.

Not only did he regularly fight against his longtime allies and friends, but he also constructed a horrific prison in the Negative Zone and essentially entombed them in a perfectly-designed oubliette without legal representation, or contact with the outside world... or even their home reality.

He was doing what he believed to be in the best interest of everyone, and there's a certain nobility in that. When his actions resulted in the death of Goliath via a clone of Thor he helped create, it was clear which side he was really on in the fight. Tony rarely does anything without thinking it through, but he never thought Civil War would devolve into what it became.
