10 Times Marvel And DC Secretly Crossed Over
9. The White Martians Kill Doctor Doom And Wolverine
During the 90's, the Justice League comics were in trouble. There were three or four different Leagues, each one was full of B-list characters and none of them were selling very well. DC decided to cancel all of them and relaunched the team as JLA, a back-to-basics group that consisted of the original seven Justice League members (but with Kyle Rayner and Wally West as Green Lantern and Flash).
The first threat that this new/old Justice League faced was the Hyperclan. The Hyperclan were a group of White Martians who planned to replace the Justice League by using their shapeshifting abilities to pose as human superheroes.
As part of their plan, they blew up the Justice League Satellite, hospitalising most of the old team and killing Metamorpho. They also set out to turn people against the new team by making them seem ineffictive. The Hyperclan acted as brutally effective heroes, rounding up villains and executing them.
However, instead of killing off existing DC characters, writer Grant Morrison used this as an opportunity to include a pretty cheeky Marvel cameo. Among the villains that are tied to poles and vaporised are a man with distinctive hair and a yellow costume and another in armour and a green cloak.
Yes, the Hyperclan killed Wolverine and Doctor Doom.
