Wolverine has loved many women; Jean Grey, Itsu, Mariko, etc. The women Logan falls tend to be virtuous, peaceful, and kind. He's drawn to their purity since they pacify his berserker rage and animal instincts. He never seems to go for women who have suffered the same hardships as him... except one.
When Logan fled from Weapon X, a woman who was experimented on in the facility also managed to escape. This woman, who took on the name Native, had a connection with Wolverine since they were both victims of Weapon X's evil. The pair fell in love and moved into a cabin in British Columbia.
Years later, Sabretooth and an offshoot of Weapon X hunted down Native to turn her into their personal assassin. When Sabretooth learned Native had a relationship with the Ol' Canknucklehead, he found it ridiculous, saying she was a wild animal incapable of civility.
When Sabretooth vowed to put her down like a dog, Logan travelled for hours to warn her. When the X-Man reached their old cabin, he found her shredded body beside a note from Sabretooth reading, "I did you a favour, runt. You can thank me, later."
