10 Vertigo Graphic Novels You Must Read Before You Die

You really can't talk about the great writers who have lent their talents to Vertigo Comics over the years without bringing up Warren Ellis at some point, especially considering the fact that his magnum opus, Transmetropolitan, is one of the best books the imprint as ever put out.

A daring story packed to the brim with sociopolitical commentary, Transmetropolitan stars Spider Jerusalem, a bitterly cynical gonzo journalist who harkens back to the heyday of the man who coined the phrase, Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. With that in mind, the book and its protagonist are as unapologetically bold as you would imagine.

Ellis and Darick Robertson's first volume of the comic, Back on the Street, drops readers into one of the bleakest, most complex cyberpunk dystopias in all of pop culture.

By combining a this unique world full of danger, corruption and disillusionment with a jaded protagonist who wants nothing more than to see it all burn, Transmetropolitan: Back on the Street effectively creates one of the most enthralling narratives in DC's history.

If you want to see Vertigo at some of its most narratively and visually unique, you need look no further than Ellis and Robertson's text.
