In his final act, a now-savage Peter awakens on his deathbed just in time to save MJ from Morlun by killing him. Yes, our principled Spider-Man killing someone. Peter dies in MJ's arms. As the Avengers prepare to bury him, his body is found torn apart from the inside out. Peter leaves Avengers' Tower, places himself in a cocoon, and later reemerges with his previous superpowers €“ plus a host of new, enhanced abilities. Stop me if you're heard this before: Spider-Man's embracing of his 'other' side was soon ret-conned out of existence. Bye, bye potentially new-and-improved Spidey.
