10 Weird Marvel Heroes You Won't Believe Exist
9. Butterball
When Iron Man won the first superhero CIvil War, one of his first actions was to set up the Initiative. It was a program designed to train the next generation of superhumans to be part of a US-wide network of heroes. Butterball was one of the earliest recruits.
Emery Schaub was an overweight fry cook until he was recruited to be a superhero. Emery's power is that he is completely invulnerable, immune to physical, energy-based and telepathic attacks. He is even immune to tiredness as he has unlimited stamina.
Unfortunately, a side-effect of Butterball's powers is that he is forever trapped in the state he was in when he received them. Not matter how hard he trained at the Initiative, he remained fat, weak and incompetent. Despite his incredible powers, his lack of skill and fighting ability made him unfit to be a hero and he eventually washed out of the program.
Another unfortunate side-effect of Butterball's powers is that he is numb to most physical sensations. This made things pretty awkward when fellow recruit Sunstreak showed a romantic interest in him.
Despite these setbacks, Butterball hasn't given up on a career as a superhero and was last seen as a student at Avengers Academy.
