10 Weird Moments You Forgot Happened In Iconic Comics

4. Harley Quinn's Superpowers

DC Comics

In the 1999 one-shot, Batman: Harley Quinn, the story begins with Poison Ivy finding Harley buried under a pile of rubble. When Ivy says she recognises her, Harley explains how she used to be known as Harleen Quinzel; Joker's personal psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum. Joker manipulated Harley to fall in love him and help him escape Arkham. When she tried to follow him, Joker tried to kill her, believing she was a distraction to his wicked schemes.

Although Harley's backstory was first shown in the 1992 cartoon, Batman: The Animated Series, this is the first time we have seen her origin in the comics. However, there is another thing in this story that has been glossed over for years. Due to Harley's injuries, Ivy gives her a concoction that helps her recover. This potion also gave her super strength, agility, reflexes, durability, and a healing factor. On top of that, Harley is immune to all poisons including Ivy's lethal kiss and Joker's toxins.

Although Harley always comes across as athletic and nimble, she is almost never referred to or seen as a superhuman. (However, it does explain how she can lift her iconic 100lb mallet with ease.) Also, Harley has the ability to hold her breath indefinitely. Despite the fact that this character debuted in the comics 20 years ago, this ability is rarely mentioned. Why does she have such a specific power but never seems to use it to her advantage?
