10 Wild Versions Of Spider-Man That Could Actually Work On Film
5. Spider-Monkey
Peter Porker's far from the only non-human Spidey on Marvel's roster. Featured in the Marvel Apes comics alongside such heroes as Iron Mandrill and the Mighty Thorangutan, Spider-Monkey also has his own one-shot and a role in the Marvel Apes/Marvel Zombies crossover. This means that he could pretty effectively fit into either the Spider-Verse or the What If...? series, especially if the showrunners at What If...? decide to start doing their own crossovers within the series.
Spider-Monkey did eventually make it into one of the mainstream comic crossovers, and the results were fatal. Following an all-out assault by the Inheritors, Spider-Monkey's death followed those of other powerful Web-heads including Cosmic Spider-Man and the Great Spider-Wolf of the Lycansphere.
Sony's Spider-Verse could easily give him the same treatment, providing his character arc some extra gravity and allowing him to stand apart from the cartoonish Spider-Ham (although their team-up would still allow for no shortage of zany antics in the interim).
Of course, Spider-Monkey doesn't have to die to be taken seriously. If Disney+ were to faithfully adapt the initial Marvel Apes run, the result would be more than a mere series of lame monkey puns.
In the comics, Spider-Monkey is among one of several Ape-vengers who follow Captain America's orders to brutally murder any villain deemed unworthy of rehabilitation, a surprisingly dark twist in a seemingly frivolous series. Despite seeming like a fairly straightforward parody character, his unquestioning alacrity for murder makes this Spider-Simian one of the most tonally versatile characters on this list.
