10 Worst Fakeout Endings In Comics

5. Magneto Is Xorn... Kind Of

Spider-Man Miles Morales Captain America
Marvel Comics

Created by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely back in 2001, the arrival of Xorn added a freshness to the oft-stale X-Men books of the time.

This newcomer was a Chinese mutant who was forced to permanently wear a metal mask due to the bizarre fact that he had a star for a brain. Becoming a member of the X-Men, Xorn spent three years working alongside Charles Xavier and his merry bunch of mutants.

Then, well then there was the fake-out revelation that Xorn had actually been the believed-dead Magneto for this entire time - with this all a scheme to infiltrate the X-Men.

By this point, the Master of Magnetism was listed as one of the 16 million killed when Genosha was destroyed by Cassandra Nova and a fleet of Sentinels. So, when three years later we get the revelation that the entire Xorn thing was all a bunch of bullsh*t, that left a bad taste in the mouths of many a comic book fan.

If one fake-out wasn't enough, it would later be revealed that this wasn't actually the real Magneto, and that Xorn was under the influence of a substance that led him to think he was Magneto. Again, all a bunch of bullsh*t.
