1. Nearly Caused The Apocalypse
The controversial story Identity Crisis left a pretty dark mark on the DC Universe. One of the heroes worst affected by it was Batman.
After Bruce discovered that members of the Justice League had erased his mind in the past, his paranoia went into overdrive. This caused him to build Brother Eye, a giant satellite to monitor all superhuman activity on Earth.
It was basically the same idea as the Justice League protocols but kicked up a notch. That itself was bad enough, but things only got worse from there.
The satellite became sentient and immediately decided to wipe out all superhumans and take over the Earth. It began infecting people with nanobots that turned them into OMACS, an army of highly advanced robots set on killing every superhero on Earth.
The fact that Batman built a satellite to spy on his friends is pretty shady and the fact that he didn't expect his super-advanced AI to become evil is a shocking failure in pattern recognition. However, the real icing on the cake is that Batman could have stopped it a lot sooner if he wasn't such a jerk.
Months before Brother Eye came alive, Blue Beetle told Batman he had uncovered a secret project called OMAC. The Dark Knight ignored him though, thinking that Beetle was an idiot. Thanks to that, Blue Beetle was murdered and the OMAC project was completed.
