5. He Killed His Own Nephew
The New 52 revamped Black Adam’s origin once again. The story begins with a young Kahndaqi boy Aman who suffered through torture and slavery and managed to escape along with his uncle Adam. Aman was chosen by the Wizard Shazam to be his champion. His uncle was hurt in their escape and Aman shared the power with him to heal him.
Aman wanted to use their shared power to help people and to heal the evil from his former slave masters. Adam simply wanted revenge. When Aman called down the lightning to make his transformation, Adam seemingly killed his nephew so he would not have to share the power with anyone. He referred to this as Aman’s sacrifice and told Billy that he would go to any lengths to “free this world from those who enslave it.”
Black Adam conveyed this story to Shazam to let him know that he was serious about killing Billy’s kidnapped foster siblings if he did not give Adam his power. The young hero chose another path and shared his power with his siblings, creating a “Marvel Family” and they freed themselves. He then convinced Adam to have a fair fight with him and he transformed into Billy. As Adam transformed, the centuries caught up to his human form and he was dust in seconds.
