1. His Failed Wedding - Batman #50

This was it. After months of build up (decades, if you count the on-again, off-again courtship the two have had), Batman and Catwoman were finally getting married. Writer Tom King had made the relationship between Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle a focal point of his run on the character, and in 2018, the stage looked set for them to finally make things official.

But that sadly wasn't meant to be. After braving the League of Assassins and even a left-out Joker, a seed of doubt was planted in Catwoman's mind. If she were to marry Batman, according to Joker, she'd deprive Gotham of its guardian. Turns out that doubt was difficult to shake, and with some further words of discouragement provided by longtime friend Holly Robinson, Selina leaves Bruce waiting at the altar.

Yikes.

The same issue reveals that it was none other than Bane who was behind the plan to call Bats' wedding off, it being step one in a multifaceted revenge scheme that proves the villain has way too much time on his hands. What came next was nothing but misery for Batman, with him brutalising Mister Freeze without any due process, seeing Nightwing get his head blown to bits by KGBeast, shaving his head and changing his name to 'Ric', Bane taking control of Gotham, and then even poor Alfred getting his neck broken after Damian gets taken hostage.

It's been a torrid time, to put things lightly. Here's hoping Bruce and Selina can bounce back in King's new Batman/Catwoman series, set to release later this year.
