10 Worst Things That Ever Happened To Spider-Man
4. Getting Tortured (In Really Weird Ways) - Peter Parker: Spider-Man #25
In his illustrious and unlucky comic career, Peter Parker has been tortured a frankly outstanding number of times - enough that by now he should have well and truly earned the Scout badge for 'unfixable torture-based trauma', and never need to go through the experience again.
However, of all this torture, one example stands out as being significantly worse, and significantly weirder, than any other.
This is because, when Norman tries to traumatise Peter into becoming his protege as the Green Goblin, he decides to go about it in simply the weirdest way possible. Osborn traps Spider-Man in a dark room, starves him and gives him no water until he's severely weakened and dehydrated, and then offers him two glasses of water - one in light, and one in shadow. When Peter picks the glass in the light, he's given an electric shock, because apparently being a supervillain is entirely about drinking juice in a dark room by yourself.
Oh, and he also drugs Peter's toothpaste in order to have him hallucinate, just in case everything else felt a little too normal.
