A short while after having his adamantium skeleton torn out, Wolverine suffered further humiliation... in the form of possibly the worst character redesign in recent decades. He lost his nose, for goodness sake!

The visual element of the redesign in and of itself is not what puts it among the worst things to happen to Howlett (as then it would have just missed the cut at number eleven), but rather the in-universe reasoning for his noseless-ness: he had devolved.

Removing the adamantium from Logan's body so violently somehow set the direction of the character's physiological development backwards, to the point where he became little more than a feral beast (that was also missing a nose, for some reason).
