100 Greatest Comic Book Villains Of All Time

85. Lucifer

LuciferFIRST APPEARANCE: SUPERMAN'S PAL JIMMY OLSEN #65 (1962) The first thing we all think of when we hear the name Lucifer is, of course, the Devil, and his DC namesake certainly lives up to that distinction. Lucifer is capable of manipulating matter, energy and time, and he is equaled in power only by his brother Michael Demiurgos and exceeded by God (who could kill him, yet Lucifer frequently wonders why he hasn't). With his impeccable mental and physical abilities - namely being fiercely intelligent and using the stars to draw down fire as a weapon - he is certainly one of the most imposing villains in the history of DC comics. In addition to this, other powers include superspeed, invulnerability, flight, acidic blood, a sonic cry, telephathic powers and the ability to speak to and understand animals. In recent reboots, his powers have extended to control over the human soul, but not animal souls. Oh, and he can on occasion predict the future, which is pretty useful.

84. Cyborg Superman

Cyborg SupermanFIRST APPEARANCE: ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #500 (1993) You really don't have to think too hard about what influenced Cyborg Superman; given the character's unveiling shortly after the release of James Cameron's Terminator 2, not to mention the visual similarities, it's clear that this character is essentially a portmanteau of The Man of Steel and Arnold Schwarzenegger's T-800. Cyborg Superman is essentially an evil version of Superman with a robot body created by way of Kryptonian science. Cyborg Superman blames Superman for his wife's death, and given the inspiration's stature as an infiltration bot, it's all too telling that he has impersonated Superman on occasion. Not only can he interact with human technology, but he is also highly knowledgeable of Kryptonian scientific practices. The Cyborg, whose real name is Hank Henshaw, really just wishes to die, though due to his Kryptonian-Cyborg build, it is thought that this might not be possible, making him one of the most tragic and fascinating villains on this list.

83. Kang the Conqueror

Kang the ConquerorFIRST APPEARANCE: AVENGERS #8 (1964) Kang the Conqueror is distinguished on this list by not having any actual supernatural powers, but instead he gets by on his sheer intellect, primarily as a genius physicist and engineer. As such, he is highly knowledgeable of time travel, which has allowed him to gain combat skills far in advance of anyone else in his time. Kang wears giant, super-tough armour that makes him stronger, and through the powers of science, he can use energy to make forcefields and also project holograms. In addition to this, his armour has its own independent food and oxygen, and his transportation of choice - the so-called "time ship" - allows him to access weaponry from the future. Due to his investment in future tech, he can also withstand far more radiation than the average human.
