11 Brutal Comics Insults That Ruined Characters

4. J. Jonah Jameson's Court Case

Batman Mad Love Puddin
Marvel Comics

Having Spider-Man and J. Jonah Jameson in court alone is a funny premise, but combining this with the pair going back and forth in jabs suited less to a courtroom and more to a playground somehow manages to make the whole thing even funnier - and even more brutal when the lawyer defending Spider-man goes all in on the Daily Bugle's owner.

After Jameson has pretty much endlessly blamed Spider-Man for every villain attack ever, the lawyer points out that almost every person the businessman has hired has ended up with some link to a major supervillain. From this, he argues that it's more likely that Jameson and his paper is the problem, and that Spider-Man is merely "cleaning up Jameson's mess".

It's completely cathartic to see Jameson reminded of his hardly spotless record, and maybe even put in his place a little. Sadly though, this does take place while Spider-Man is taking down the Scorpion, and so the hero doesn't even get to share in the catharsis with the reader.
