11 Brutal Comics Insults That Ruined Characters

3. The Batman's Last Laugh

Generally, in fights between Batman and Joker, there is only one person making jokes, and their identity is slightly given away by their name.

On the plus side, this only serves to make anytime the Dark Knight does come back with a putdown all the better, which would explain why his jab at the Joker in the standalone Joker comic feels absolutely brutal.

At the closing of the comic, the iconic duo are finally confronted by each other, as the Joker asks a pretty relevant question: why Batman's mask leaves the lower half of his face visible. To this, the hero has one, very good answer: "To mock you."

It's a low-key destruction of the Joker - who has been endlessly trying to mock Batman's morals and values - by, in one simple sentence, showing him that it is instead the Joker who is the prime subject of mockery.

With so many comics that pit the Joker against the Bat having the latter win through a physical beatdown, it's nice to see a reminder that the Caped Crusader is also still capable of verbal beatdowns.

I like my comics like I like my coffee - in huge, unquestionably unhealthy doses.
