11 Comic Book Characters Who Died In 2019
7. Heimdall
Issue: Valkyrie: Jane Foster #2
The world witnessed the death of Heimdall in Avengers: Infinity War and his time in the comics came soon after, though under different circumstances. In Valkrie: Jane Foster #2, Heimdall meets his end at the hands of a different foe following the events of the "War of the Realms" crossover event.
In the first issue of the book, Jane Foster takes up the mantle of Valkryie after she was killed, but has to go about looking for her sword, Dragonfang. It was stolen after her death, and the person who picked it up was none other than Bullseye, one of Daredevil's enemies.
Bullseye introduced Heimdall to the blade by running him through with it, but he didn't die immediately. He was able to get up and help fight Bullseye with Jane Foster, and the sword is destroyed, but Heimdall succumbs to his wounds.
As he lay dying, he asked Jane not to take him to Valhalla, but rather, to take him beyond the Ten Realms so he could see what was there. She agrees and tells him they will embark on a "Journey Into Mystery" with Heimdall, which was a nice callback to the original title of Thor's debut as well as a nice way to close out Heimdall's story.
