DC Comics

Ra's Al Ghul has cheated death for 800 years by rejuvenating himself in the Lazarus Pits. If a person enters one of these pools of mystical energy, they will be healed from any ailment.

However, it seemed like Ra's was gone for good when he was stabbed to death by his daughter before he had a chance to reach a Lazarus Pit. Just to make sure he couldn't be reanimated in any way, his body was cremated.

However, Ra's wasn't going to let a little thing like death kill him. To resurrect himself, Ra's intended to transfer his soul into his grandson, Damian Wayne, AKA Batman's son. (And before you ask, yes, Ra's plan is the exact same as The Emperor's in The Rise of Skywalker.)

His minions resurrect Ra's in a corpse's body, which serves as a temporary husk until he can locate Damian. His form is so frail, Batman snaps his arm off. (This is a bit violent for Batman but I suppose his "No Kill Rule" doesn't count if his enemy is already dead.) When Ra's fails to transfer his soul to Damian, he uses his own son, Dusan, as a vessel, allowing himself to be reborn.
