1. The Flash
The Golden Age certainly has its proponents, but come on. The original Flash was basically running around with a bedpan on his head.
Much like his Justice League pals Aquaman and Green Lantern, the Flash needed a clean break with the trappings of the past, and Carmine Infantino gave Barry Allen the best possible launchpad for success.
Ditching all the little references to Mercury and instead redesigning the costume to look sleeker, almost more like swimwear or speed-skating attire than running gear, helped update the Flash for a new audience.
The new Flash, all red with yellow accents, was simpler, more streamlined, and felt fresher. The change was certainly drastic, but it was desperately needed.
