13 Truths Comic Book Fans Would Never Admit To Themselves

7. You Will Buy Any Book With Wolverine And/Or Spider-Man

What You Say: It€™s so annoying how Marvel will milk characters like Wolverine and Spider-Man for all they€™re worth. They€™re given ongoing solo titles (sometimes more than one), are in teams (in some cases more than one), make frequent guest appearances in other titles, and also get numerous mini-series and specials devoted to them. This kind of over-exposure has sapped the characters of a lot of their appeal, and stretches the limits of suspension of disbelief. Why does Marvel keep doing this? But What You Really Mean: Characters like Wolverine and Spider-Man sell books. Their solo titles are consistently some of the best-selling titles on the market, and those books they make guest appearances in often experience a boost in sales, if only for that issue. So no matter how many comic fans say they hate the over-exposure, the fact is there must be enough of them buying all these Wolvie and Spidey-centric books. If there weren€™t, Marvel wouldn€™t keep publishing them. Which means that some of you out there complaining about them are lying and just won€™t admit that yes, you will buy a book just because your favorite character makes an appearance.
