6. The Flash - Barry Allen

Captain Marvel Redesign
DC Comics

Jay Garrick’s version of the Flash just looked ridiculous - there’s no other word for it. In a way, you could argue it’s harsh to hold classic comic book character costumes to the standards of today, but still, Garrick rushes around with what looks like a metal soup bowl on his head.

The CW show has featured Garrick too, and it looks no less bizarre in real life. Granted, the red overalls with the lightning bolts isn’t something you’d expect on the catwalk in London, Paris or Milan, but it’s much less out of place than Garrick’s strange headwear.

When Barry Allen took over the title of the Flash, the hat was ditched and the character looked so much better for it. There’s not too much you can really do with the costume, because his speed necessitates the lack of accessories. It’s a costume that typifies the ‘less is more’ mentality, and because of that the hat had to go.
