15 Greatest Joker Comics Of All Time

12. Death Of The Family

Joker Rebirth
DC Comics

The stakes of this claustrophobic horror story are deeply personal: just picture your loved ones in danger. “Death of the Family” sees Joker hitting very close to home. It has Joker as a jilted lover and a home wrecker who invades the tranquility of the Batcave and destroys the trust built up by Bruce among his family.

And props have to go to the New 52 team for so successfully overhauling Joker’s look, with the mechanic’s coverall and the terrifying impact of Joker’s detached face. That has become one of the most haunting and already most recaptured moments in the Joker lexicon.

Some claim the ending is uneventful compared to the plot’s horrifying anticipation. To me, the comedown conclusion is fitting with the story’s primally emotional stakes.
