15 Most Inappropriate Batman Storylines Of All Time

2. Anything Involving The Mad Hatter

Dr Jervis Tetch isn't one of the better-known members of Batman's rogues gallery, but he's certainly one of the most enduring. Dude's been knocking around in one form or another since the forties, usually in the guise of the Alice In Wonderland-inspired Mad Hatter. He looks a little like The Penguin, with his diminutive stature, gimmick and top hat, but the Hatter has an insanity all his own. And perversity to match. He's gotten steadily darker over the years, beginning as a run-of-the-mill villain doing bad things because, y'know, that's what bad guys do, but in recent year his modus operandi has gotten a little more icky. A little more disturbing. His shtick is his ability to control people's minds and make them do his bidding, which has been used for various crimes over the decades.

As of late, mind, he's been using those abilities to satisfy his own particular urges. Usually kidnapping a bunch of pre-teen girls, brainwashing them, and dressing them all up as Alice in order to have a "tea party" with him. It's heavily implied in the Arkham Asylum graphic novel that he's a !*$%, if you're not getting it. Haunted Knight also implied an unhealthy fixation on children, such as when he kidnaps a young Barbara Gordon. Basically every storyline involving the Mad Hatter has a strong suggestion that he's a child molester, and that's why he keeps coaxing the young girls of Gotham into various shadowy warehouses around the city, which is pretty distressing material for a comic about a guy dressed as a bat punching everything.
