Fun Home 1
Alison Bechdel

This simple scene gets to the heart of Fun Home a lot more effectively than Maus' first scene did. The detail of "rare physical contact" and the notion that Bechdel was willing to endure discomfort to get it indicates the troubled relationship she had with her father without overselling it, and the idea of "Icarian games" is a sad and beautiful symbol of the fragility of life.
