Nobody but nobody built a splash page like Jack Kirby in the 1970s, and O.M.A.C. was one of his lesser-known masterpieces: a compelling vision of "the world that's coming" that still reads like it could have been written last week. The concept of a "Build-A-Friend" recalls modern sex dolls, Tamagotchis and other devices we all too often use as substitutes for genuine friendship.
