20 Best Comic Covers Of 2014

11. Batman '66 #14 By Joe Quinones

Oh sure, everybody's into angsty Batman nowadays, what with the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy starring a Caped Crusader who spent a lot of time moping about his dead parents and a lot less doing go-go dancing. That era of the Batman is long gone, left behind in the swingin' sixties where Adam West and Burt Ward starred as the Dynamic Duo in a campy, pop-art inflected TV series. Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's current run on the character is fun, but still pretty brooding; for those who prefer the old, fancy-free Dark Knight, DC have appealed to the nostalgia dollar recently with a Batman '66 comic book series.
The book as a whole is a heck of a lot of fun, with writer Jeff Parker having a perfect handle on the ridiculous, OTT and charming tone of the sixties show. Despite existing outside of the normal DC continuity, Batman '66 still got in on the game of this year's run of variant selfie covers. Those variants saw heroes taking self-portraits on smart phones, Which obviously didn't exist in the sixties, so Batman and Robin had to make do with a rotary BAT CAMERA PHONE.
