20 Best Comic Covers Of 2014

6. Batman #32 By Greg Capullo

Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's Batman has been one of the best comic series of the year, especially now they've finished off their Zero Year story that put a totally new spin on Bruce Wayne's early years beneath the cowl. Year One is ground that's been well trod over the character's history, yet the duo who've been on the book since the New 52 relaunch managed to find something fresh to do with it, with a cool redesign of the classic costume and a neon day-glo colour scheme that the pair characterise as being their punk rock middle finger at the usual dour Gotham landscape.
Capullo might've seemed like an odd fit for DC's premiere superhero in DC's premiere superhero book, what with his previous biggest work being on Todd Macfarlane's Spawn, where he mostly...imitated the work of Todd Macfarlane on Spawn. His time on Batman has revealed that he's actually one of the most inventive and daring artists in comics - especially when it comes to the use of colour in Zero Year. And especially with the cover to Batman #32, with the Dark Knight literally caught up in The Riddler's questions. Get it? Get it? Obvious symbolism but, well, that's comic books. And it looks awesome.
