20 Best Comics Moments In 2013

5. Pizza Dog's Own Issue (Hawkeye #11 "Pizza Is My Business")

Pizza Dog Hawkeye This is a whole comic being entered in this case - because it is bloody brilliant. Pizza Dog first appeared in 2012 in the first issue of this comic run, where he was known as "Arrow". Arrow was a dog who originally belonged to Ivan and the "Tracksuit Mafia". After Hawkeye had showed him some kindness, Arrow repaid him by attacking one of Ivan's men who was shooting at him. However, Arrow paid a high price for saving Hawkeye, as Ivan's men beat him and threw him into traffic. He barely survived and Hawkeye rushed him to a veterinary hospital. Arrow survived the surgeries, but lost use of his left eye. Hawkeye then took ownership of the dog and renamed him "Lucky". In instalment eleven of this run (which did indeed come in 2013), Lucky got his own issue, which was subtitled "Pizza Is My Business" (due to his love for pizza and the reason he is colloquially known as "Pizza Dog"). It is entirely from his perspective. The issue sees him just wandering around, but observing incidents that become important in the Hawkeye run as a whole. It is extremely well done, with everything in Lucky's world being a string of associations (for example he associates Hawkeye with coffee, dog food and his bow and arrow, and he associates Kate with flowers and Martinis and passion. There's also a very little graphic that pops up for every person that Pizza Dog glances at with his web of associations for that individual, which you can see in the image above along with the scrambled words, of which only a few are recognisable to Lucky, whenever anyone speaks). This could be the comic of last year and it is only at number five because there were some individual moments in other comics that were more memorable. You have to read this issue, if you haven't already.
